Eli Kalman

ELI KALMAN has performed extensively as a soloist and chamber musician in Romania, Israel, Germany, Hungary, Japan, the United States and Canada. Hailing from Israel, he was awarded the Paul Collins Distinguished Graduate Fellowship for Excellence while working on his Doctorate at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Dr. Kalman has performed on several chamber music series including: the San Francisco Performances; the Emmanuel Music-Schumann Chamber Series in Boston; the Connoisseur Series at Wichita State University; Myra Hess Series in Chicago and on other venues. He has performed as artist in-residence at the Chamber Music Festival in Banff, Canada, and since 2002, has performed as guest artist for the Token Creek Festival in Wisconsin. In 2001, he recorded compositions for solo piano, and cello and piano, by Erwin Junger. In 2006, Dr. Kalman recorded Robert Schumann’s Sonatas for Violin and Piano with violinist Rose Mary Harbison. His recitals have been heard on Jerusalem Radio, Wisconsin National Public Radio, and WFMT in Chicago. His latest recording, “The Jewish Soul”, was done in collaboration with cellist Amit Peled, and released on Centaur Records in 2009.

Dr. Kalman’s research interests include the study and performances of neglected repertoire for strings and piano and other compositions by both Romanian pianist Dinu Lipatti and Israeli composer Erwin Junger. In 2005, Dr. Kalman joined the piano faculty at the Young Artist Seminars at Rocky Ridge Music Center, CO., and since 2006, serves as Professor of Piano at University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh. He is also on the piano faculty for the association “Maestro“, which is a non-profit organization in Israel that provides a home base for accomplished Israeli musicians living abroad.

Dr. Kalman earned a Diploma in Piano Performance at the Academy of Music “G. Dima” in Cluj, Romania, his Masters and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
